Software media server efficiently mixes diverse media streams, enables any-to-any network connectivity and cloud-based services

Parsippany, N.J. – June 18, 2013Dialogic Inc. (OTCQB:DLGC), the Network Fuel™ company, today unveiled PowerMedia™ XMS 2.1, a software media server which addresses many of the greatest challenges facing Web Real-Time Communications (WebRTC) deployment. With the power to mix diverse media streams and enable connectivity between legacy networks, endpoints and WebRTC, PowerMedia XMS 2.1 simplifies multi-party communications and collaboration. Based on an award-winning platform, PowerMedia XMS 2.1 also provides a seamless transition for virtualization and cloud environments and supports the communications industry’s migration to network functions virtualization (NFV) solutions.

By eliminating the total cost of ownership associated with dedicated hardware investments, PowerMedia XMS 2.1 is poised to serve as a major accelerator for the WebRTC ecosystem and browser-to-browser communication scenarios.

APEX Voice Communications, a market leader in service delivery platforms (SDPs) and multi-service application servers for interactive voice, video, text/SMS and unstructured supplementary service data (USSD)-enhanced services, currently relies on PowerMedia XMS for its service provider video collaboration solution. “We have found the complexity, cost and maintenance of today’s multimedia SIP clients to be an obstacle for network operators seeking to deploy new video calling and conferencing services,” said Elhum Vahdat, vice president of strategy at APEX. “WebRTC promises to substantially mitigate that obstacle, and PowerMedia’s integrated support for WebRTC media mixing will accelerate and expand our deployment opportunities in the market this year.”

By the end of 2013, an expected 1 billion devices will be equipped for real-time, peer-to-peer video, voice and data communication sessions through WebRTC and HTML5 browsers such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. With PowerMedia XMS 2.1, network operators and application developers will enable those click-to-communicate sessions without additional hardware, proprietary software clients or plug-ins. It will also normalize WebRTC specifications at the IP media subsystem (IMS) level and deliver a seamless, native experience for end users.

Crocodile RCS Ltd, an early mover in WebRTC services, recently launched a comprehensive real-time Web communications platform featuring a cloud signaling network and WebRTC developer software development kit (SDK). “While the outlook for pure Web-based, real-time communication service innovation is expansive, connecting back to legacy mobile and terrestrial networks and endpoints will be necessary for many applications to ensure reach and coverage of the service,” said John Parr, managing director of Crocodile RCS. “We are actively integrating PowerMedia XMS into our Amazon Web Services (AWS)-based platform to enhance that connectivity. As a software-based solution, PowerMedia XMS fits perfectly with our strategy to deploy and scale using the economics and reach of the AWS cloud infrastructure and broadband networks.”

Although WebRTC was initially viewed as a peer-to-peer solution for small parties, its more significant potential now lies in dynamic multi-party sessions, shared content and collaboration. PowerMedia XMS 2.1 is a primary catalyst for these activities, and will allow service providers to deliver WebRTC-enabled hosted unified communications, conferencing and contact center upgrades for enterprises. At the consumer level, providers will be able to appeal to users with freemium peer-to-peer services and then upsell with offerings such as network connectivity, streaming video and multi-party video conferencing.

“WebRTC is a game changer because it dramatically lowers the barriers to developing, delivering and deploying richer communication services,” said Andrew Goldberg, senior vice president of marketing and strategy for Dialogic. “PowerMedia XMS 2.1 will save service providers and application developers from designing their own multimedia processing and connectivity solutions so they can more quickly monetize the WebRTC opportunity.”

Dialogic will showcase PowerMedia XMS 2.1 at the 2013 WebRTC Conference and Expo in Atlanta on June 25-27 at the Cobb Galleria. Attendees can see a live demonstration on Wednesday, June 26 at 5:20 p.m. EDT.
