Network Functions Virtualization
Communication Service Providers (CSPs) are embracing a new deployment methodology. They’re
moving network infrastructure functionality from proprietary hardware deployments to virtualized,
software-based applications using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) servers that leverage the latest
in virtualization technology. This is known as Network Functions Virtualization (NFV).
NFV is pushing the envelope when it comes to the way CSPs traditionally have deployed, managed and
connected network infrastructure and delivered services. And with 5G, NFV and Software Defined
Networking (SDN) concepts are fundamental to this next wave of network evolution and will help
facilitate the projected growth in mobile connected devices that make up the Internet of Things
(IoT).
